I had a busy week so I watched things I have seen a hundred times before or new to me. Depending on how much time I had! Let’s do this!
Movie 50: Mon August 1st
Forrest Gump
Directed by: Robert Zemeckis
Starring: Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Sally Field
I have a huge soft spot for this movie. It’s so stupid, sweet, and mildly clever. But the charm really empowers it. I Always have fun watching it and never understood why people hate it so much. I will always be a Tom Hanks fan and I find myself quoting his lines a lot in my life. Plus, I just like seeing Gary Sinise getting work. Fucking love that guy.
Movie 51: Tues August 2nd
Ali Wong: Baby Cobra
Stand up Special
Crude, honest, and awesome. Great special. I really like her comedy. It always pisses me off to no end when people tell me women can not do stand up. She is definitely one of my favorite female stand up comedians in the past 15 years. If you want to check out other female stand up comedians, I suggest Judy Gold, Whitney Cummings, Amy Schumer, Jenny Slate, and Leslie Jones. Then check out classics like Joan Rivers, Phylis Diller, and Carol Burnett.
Movie 52: Wed August 3rd
The Big Short
Directed by: Adam McKay
Starring: Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt
A great re-watch! This is the third time watching it and it really is a fantastic, informative film. Not only does it not lose itself from being so, I guess, “preachy,” but the characters are all entertaining and they make the complexity easy to follow. I also love the cut-aways to random famous people.
Movie 53: Thurs August 4th
Chef
Directed by: Jon Favreau
Starring: Jon Favreau, John Leguizamo, Emjay Anthony, Sofia Vergara
I have watched this movie SO MANY TIMES. I think this is Favreau’s best film yet. I can’t say anything bad about the film. It’s just…. AHHHHHHH…. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it now! It’s on Netflix! Get on your ass and watch it! Now I am hungry as fuck….
Movie 54: Fri August 5th
Tommy Boy
Directed by: Peter Segal
Starring: Chris Farley, David Spade, Brian Dennehy, Bo Derek
Always a staple go-to film if you want something funny. It is never a let down. Farley’s physical comedy is something we don’t see anymore, unless it’s done by a really crappy actor trying to imitate him. He was a gem and can’t be replaced. I have watched so many traveling comedies… Why didn’t I watch ‘Planes Trains and Automobiles’ or ‘The Trip’ yesterday???
Movie 55: Sat August 6th
Coming to America
Directed by: John Landis
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, John Amos
One of my favorite movies. The golden age for Eddie Murphy. Watching this movie makes me actually kinda depressed as to how brilliant Eddie Murphy could really be if he has the right people around him. Another staple comedy for people to watch. Where’s the spoon? Ahaaaaaaa!!!!
Movie 56: Sun August 7th
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Directed by: Kevin Smith
Starring: Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Craig Robinson, Jeff Anderson
I absolutely love this film. I love this week. I should give myself a pat on the back. Every character is hilarious, the dialogue is fantastic, and it is just entertaining from start to finish. People say it’s the last great Kevin Smith movie and I may have to agree with them. Just typing that made me really sad. It’s not that I don’t like the films made afterwards, they just aren’t like this and the ones before. I am holding out for Clerks 3 and Mallbrats, even though I hate that title. By the way, Justin Long is still one of the best parts and that scene is nothing less than brilliant.
