Joan Rivers is back and at SDCC 2017! She brings the red carpet with her to find out what’s going on and who all the cosplayers are wearing.
She doesn’t necessarily understand cosplayers, but she definitely understands fashion! Just look at that hair, that blazer, that belt…fashion. And where better to look at super hero fashion than the streets of San Diego in July? No where, obviously. The only problem is that Joan isn’t really a morning person…
The best part of SDCC is the cosplay is much more egalitarian than other conventions. There were fewer people cosplaying as part of a personal brand they were building and more people doing it just to be a part of the community. That’s the great thing about cosplay. It doesn’t have to be professionally done. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on it. You don’t have to have the same body type, age, or gender as the character you’re dressed as. It’s an opportunity for geeks and fans to come together and celebrate their shared love of our geeky culture.
