Welcome Gatherers to my latest installment of Picks of the Week for the week of June 8. Read on and satisfy your curiosities about all those great independent works that are available online or at your local comic book shop!

My first pick goes to the Deadbeat graphic novel, written and drawn by Jeremy Massie.  A literary masterpiece that draws a tale of an ex-superhero who must come to grips with the fact that he is a father and must make up for lost time with his daughter.  Available from http://www.alternacomics.com/.

“The Deadbeat was one of the world’s greatest heroes. He used to be able to save the day, the city, and everything else in between. But when his estranged daughter comes back into his life, will he be able to save their broken relationship? Jeremy Massie crafts an emotional tale about a down-on-his-luck former superhero coming face to face with the daughter he barely ever knew.”

My second pick goes to Prometheus: Life and Death #1, written by Dan Abnett with artwork done by Andrea Mutti. A wonderfully crafted start of a four-issue miniseries that draws on the tales of yautja, Mal’akak and human all in one when the former and latter are locked in a death defying battle over an Engineer spacecraft.  Available from http://www.darkhorse.com/.

“Colonial Marines have commandeered a mysterious alien ship-wresting it from the savage Predators who also wanted it. But now the owner of the vessel has awakened, and the marines find themselves trapped in space with an angry god!”
