And we are officially in 2017 now, Gatherers!  What an amazing holiday season it has been, and no not just because Betty White survived once more.  No, with a new year comes new promise. New goals. New aspirations. And, of course, with a new year comes my favorite…new comics!  So let’s see what your local shop can provide you this week or what you can observe from the sanctity of your own search engine!

This first pick is quite simply due to one reason, and one reason only, and that is Mike Mignola.  Yes sir, in this reader’s opinion, everything he writes and draws is instant gold, and for me that’s more than enough of an explanation for why this book is good.  As for the story itself, well, what’s not to like about adventurers not arriving in time to save the day?

 what they find there.” -PREVIEWSworld

This second pick appeals to the side of me that enjoys a nice parody of the realm of comics and the stories it inspires in Alex Robinson’s and Pat N. Lewis’s all time classic graphic novel. Aside from the fact that this book is an all time favorite for any comic lover, it is a work steeped in realism popular for those that love a good laugh at life.

STL031185 Title: Box Office Poison Color Comics #1

Writer: Alex Robinson

Artist: Alex Robinson

Cover Artist: Alex Robinson

Alex Robinson’s masterpiece of dreary jobs, comic books, love, sex, messy apartments, girlfriends  (and the lack thereof), undisclosed pasts, and crusty old professionals remains one of the most delightful and  whimsical comic stories-and with colorist Pat N. Lewis’ fantastic color work, BOP is ready to return to comic stands!”
