Jeff's Picks logo BannerHere we are at the end of February, my lovely Gatherers!  Incredible really, that February.  It goes off without a hitch and before you know it, it’s gone like that.  But don’t worry, if you think that means that the comics have dried for the month you are still in luck.  For with this last week of the month there are still those sweet juicy indie titles you’re just ready and willing to read up on.  Alright lets stop enticing your senses and bring on the picks!

Now, this first pick that I will introduce to you guys and girls may on its surface seem like any run-of-the-mill tale about demons and their shenanigans.  Now while that is partially right, I believe the true appeal of this book lies in its approach to the demon genre with regard to storytelling.  It is a fresh and invigorating look into one of the great “what if’s” people would be considering and illustrates a world that just might be severely forsaken.

STL032254Title: The Darkness Visible #1
Writer: Mike Carey
Artist: Brendan Cahill
Cover Artist(s): Brendan Cahill (normal cover), Dave Kendall (subscription variant)

But to save his daughter, he’ll pay any price-including genocide.”                                          -PREVIEWSworld

This second pick appeals to the survivalist instinct in us all but has a bit of a horrific, almost Island of Dr. Moreau fierceness to it.  I mean sure, we like to think that in a situation we walk away from a cataclysmic accident that we will be alright, but in the end, do we really ever leave the sight of the catastrophe?  Well, the creators of this world certainly don’t think so, and considering it’s in one-shot format it’s one of those works that may seem to say more with just a bit less!

The-BelfryTitle: The Belfry (one-shot)
