Happy Valentine’s Day, Gatherers and Grand Geeks alike!  Any plans with all that love in the air?  Taking that special someone out for dinner and a movie?  Yeah, me neither.  My first love always has and always will be comics, especially of the indie persuasion.  So unlike so many out there that will be professing their love this fine evening, I am going to be sitting back and enjoying some more wonderful reads.  This week, Action Lab’s Danger Zone realm is what’s gonna be breaking hearts and taking names.  So read on my friends and see what they have to offer!

Baby Badass #1
Writer(s): D. E. Schrader, Kristian Horn
Artist(s): Tim Larsen
Cover Artist(s): Tim Larsen, Dan Mendoza
Publisher: Action Lab – Danger Zone

Synopsis: “Baby Badass didn’t ask to be born. He’s an escaped military experiment gone wrong; a swift, brutal, half-formed super-soldier clone hybrid killing machine, trapped inside the body of a baby. Together with Joey, a sweet, sexy waitress from the New West desert, they’re on the run from the evil M.O.T.H.E.R. in a dystopian disco future world gone mad!

PREVIEWSworld

It really begs to be asked, this particular question…do we ever really ask to be born?  Well, Baby Badass sure didn’t, and considering that he has all the attributes of a death machine housed inside of the body with all the never-do-well antics of a human infant, you can rest assured that he’s taking it out on the world in response for such a heinous act.  Of course, it sure as hell doesn’t help when your creator is named M.O.T.H.E.R. and are in midst of a charred post-apocalyptic world.

Black Betty #1

Cover Artist(s): Michela Da Sacco, Marco Maccagni, Dan Mendoza
Publisher: Action Lab – Danger Zone

Synopsis: “Meet the newest member of Zombie Tramp universe! Black Betty has made a living killing the unkillable. She has taken down monsters of every shape and size with a style all her own. But when a man’s daughter is kidnapped by a local legend, Betty steps in to save her – for a price! If you need it dead (and you’ve got the cash!), Betty’s your girl!

PREVIEWSworld

I don’t know, guys and gals.  But with a title like this, and a look like that given to its protagonist, I’m tempted to break out my old LPs and records and listen to the titular song by Ram Jam.  What’s funny though is that the intensity of that song from 1977 has about the same tone and craziness that this here comic has.  This Black Betty though, wow.  She just reminds you of Ash but with a far more edgy background and a local legend on top of that to boot.  But make no mistake, Gatherers and Grand Geeks, if you’re able to hire her for her services every red cent of your hard earned cash will be worth it in the end.  Move over A-Team and get back into the eighties where you belong.  This gal is a one-woman team all on her own and ready to serve monster @$$ to highest bidder!

These gems from Action Lab are what I bequeath to you this fine Valentine’s Day, Grand Geeks and Gatherers. Tales of infant death machines and female killers of the zombieverse.  They are just there begging to be read by fine folks such as yourself.  They are available at the mere touch of a button on your phone or keyboard or at the touch of a screen on your tablet or computer.  But I will of course encourage you to go the next step further and to show your support for local comic book shops by buying the hardcopy issues themselves.  Share with your friends and begin a thought provoking conversation!  Be sure to leave a comment or two and never forget, Gatherers…GGG!
