Christmas has gone and New Years is on the horizon. Wait a minute. How did that happen?! It seemed like 2017 just opened up and yet here we are on the brink of a new year. Festivities are almost at an end. But with the realm of indie comics, as many of you know, the celebration is never-ending! So lets see what books we shall conclude this awesome year with!
Cerebus: The Vark Knight Returns #1
Writer(s): Dave Sim, Sandeep Atwal
Artist(s): Dave Sim, Gustave Dore
Cover Artist(s): Frank Miller, Lynn Varley, Sandeep Atwal
Synopsis: “Batvark Invictus; three-part (sorry!) Batvark’s Wedding Vows; Batvark tweets Johnny Depp; also reprints online strips from September 2016: Cerebus goes to see Suicide Squad; King Solomon, rap artist; Cerebus the Party Hat; Xavier Cugat and conga-line snakes; Siamese Twin Girl-Boy and The Aardvarkian League of Justice; building the Poet Laureate Pyramid & The Granite-Slab Freestyle Slalom…”
One cannot simply ignore the utter ridiculousness and nonsensical greatness that the world of Cerebus provides for the casual and discerning reader. So why not a spin on the Dark Knight’s tales with Batvark at the helm now? And let’s be honest, that Frank Miller cover is sweeter than sweet, is it not?!
Hardcopy purchase is available for this indie book through your LCS!
Back to the Future: Tales from the Time Train #1
Writer(s): Bob Gale, John Barber
Artist(s): Megan Levens
Cover Artist(s): Megan Levens, Philip Murphy
Synopsis: “It’s 1893 and at last, Doc Brown fulfills his promise to Clara as he’s completed the project he’s been working on: the Time Train! But where in time and space will the Brown family go on their inaugural trip? And what could possibly go wrong if and when they get there? Lots! Join Gale, Barber, and Megan Levens as they kick off the newest Back to the Future series!”
If you are as curious as I was what Doc and Clara and their children were going to do at the end of the third BttF film, then look no further! Into this new series at IDW does this question get answered. Almost as if it was a companion piece written for the very adoring audience that enjoyed this movie back in the day. And to quote the film, my God, has it been that long?!
