Howdy, Gatherers! We are ever that much closer to Christmas now. I myself have had a fabulous week of Warcraft, finally gathering a full transmogrification set that I have been working on for well over a year to attain and then of course there’s so much to speak of with regards to gift shopping for my friends and family and…oh yeah that’s right this piece isn’t about me and my life! Its about you the adoring fans and giving you what you wish, which in this case is a good alternative read in the realm of independent label comics.
The first pick that I am offering to you for the week is quite the one for those who love a good traditional superhero type of story. Now, I’m tooting my own horn when I suggest this pick because I am a die hard fan of the Green Hornet as I am of all masked avenger types. And for anyone that is a fan of this guy and his trusty aide Kato, then this book simply is a must.
Title: The Green Hornet: Reign of the Demon #1
Written by: David Liss
Art by: Kewber Baal
Published by: Dynamite Entertainment
Synopsis: “If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery for most people, it could be the deadliest for The Green Hornet and Kato. With their vigilantism tearing apart organized crime, Chicago is visited by two more masked individuals: one claiming to be a friend and the other…their most formidable foe yet!”
The second pick is one that is near and dear to my heart as it is a series that is finally coming to an end. Like the Doctor, I never handle goodbyes very well so this is a choice indie book that I am having a hard time letting go of. Alas twenty-five issues of a run is something spectacular to speak of nowadays, and it could not have happened to a finer monthly ongoing!
Title: Peter Panzerfaust #25
Written by: Kurtis J. Wiebe
Art by: Tyler Jenkins
Published by: Image Comics
Synopsis: “The grand finale of Peter’s journey and the one interview John Parsons has been building toward: Wendy Darling. The woman who knew Peter as no other reveals her secrets, and the mystery behind the man will finally be revealed. A double-sized issue of intrigue, love and heroism and a final goodbye to Peter Panzerfaust.”
And that is a wrap, folks! As we draw closer to the end of the year, and you all are having last minute shopping ideas, always remember to support local comic stores with all they provide. Without their glorious inventory, none of us would have the rare jewels such as these picks to read! And since we are that much closer to Christmas, might I also suggest purchasing them as gifts for your friends! Read them and share them. Begin a conversation and leave a comment or two. Remember most of all…GGG!
