Happy Holidays, Gatherers! Yes, I said it.  Its getting closer and closer for everyone and soon we’ll be enjoying Christmas cheer as this year draws to a close.  In time we’ll all be getting cozy before a fire and enjoying frosty eggnog and sweets galore while opening a present or two with our loved ones.  But just because the holiday season is nearly in full swing does not mean that the gears of comics making comes to an end!  So grab your gingerbread men, one and all and sit down while we get to the picks!

My first pick goes to Shadows on the Grave #1, written and drawn by Richard Corben.  All I gotta say is, guys, the Master is back! And he’s writing more wonderful horror that we all know and love.  And in this ongoing tale our focus comes to Corben’s new warrior by the name of Denaeus, who’s basis is steeped in the character of Den that we all remember from Heavy Metal Magazine!  Available from http://www.darkhorse.com/.

“The master of supernatural horror is back with bizarre tales of terror in his signature black-and-white style. Running through the entire series is the continuing story of Corben’s new warrior character, Denaeus, reminiscent of his best-loved creation, Den from the classic Heavy Metal series.  New stories from 2012 Eisner Hall of Fame award winner Richard Corben!”

My second pick goes to Dungeons & Dragons: Frost Giant’s Fury #1, written by Jim Zub and drawn by Netho Diaz. Get your D20’s ready people, for D&D is in full swing with another tale that can be defined as nothing short of epic.  The heroes of Baldur’s Gate now face the wrath of the Storm King’s vengeance as frost giants now run roughshod over the realms where they walk.  Available from https://www.idwpublishing.com/.

“Mighty giants stir across the land and, before their crushing might, nothing is safe. Badly injured after their encounters in the Demiplane of Dread and now lost in the frozen northern reaches of the Forgotten Realms, the Baldur’s Gate heroes will be tested like never before. Roll for initiative, a new Dungeons & Dragons adventure begins! * Dungeons & Dragons is seeing a renaissance with the release of the fifth edition rules in late 2014. Hundreds of thousands of players are returning to D&D or embarking on their first adventures and they’re hungry for extra content. * Jim Zub returns with a new D&D story tying into the Storm King’s Thunder event that runs across multiple RPG products, novels, and video games. * This series continues with the cast from the hit Legends of Baldur’s Gate and Shadows of the Vampire stories, but is also built as a perfect jumping on point for new readers, bringing them into D&D’s classic blend of sword & sorcery adventure.”
