Here we come to August, Gatherers!  Wow, we are now two-thirds of the way done this year and it seems like 2017 only just came by yesterday.  The summer is still hot but with this comforting two-thirds news comes the promise that it starts to get to cooling down real soon.  Not realistically of course.  I’m sure we will have plenty more summer blaze to deal with.  But along the way, I bring to you Gatherers a special issue of Picks in which I’m going to spotlight a series of books that are the brainchild of a good friend whom I had met at Comic Con a couple weeks ago.  So lets just see what good recommendation I will give to you this time!

Apocalyptic literature speaks to us all in every medium.  Books, shows, movies, and even comics.  And we have seen plenty of examples of these to entice our senses.  But few works written have ever gone straight to a burning issue one struggles with when reading such works, and that is the question of just how mankind deals with life when the end of time comes.  Well, in this work, we deal with a female protagonist named Clara who deals with such a dilemma while living in this world where the frights of the night and the demon eaters of flesh now walk the earth and humans are driven underground.  How does she handle herself while seeing to the well-being of others in this never-ending struggle for human survival in the midst of Armageddon? Well, that’s up to you to find out by picking this bad boy up!

Many works out there deal with the event itself. The cataclysm raining hell down on the helpless people.  Violence and gore are aplenty in such works.  We’ve all read that.  Now while Warren Hope does include these things, the book in general encompasses so much more than just the savage in of itself.  Especially our protagonist.  What was life like for her before all that room in Hell opened a maw upon the earth?  What does she do to deal with the current circumstances?  Does she lose herself along the way or does she tough it out?  These questions and more are what await you by supporting this work!
