Happy belated Easter and April Fool’s to all you Grand Geeks and Gatherers out there!  I hope the festivities were fun and worthwhile and you had plenty of shenanigans to speak of.  I myself am all partied out from the fun and still coming down off of my high from the Wondercon weekend as well.  The adjustment to spring is always a demanding yet rewarding one, but the wheels of indie discovery continue to grind onward. Luckily for you Alterna Comics has some great picks for you to guys and gals to peruse!

Tinsel Town #1 (of 5)
Writer(s): David Lucarelli
Artist(s): Henry Ponciano
Cover Artist(s): Henry Ponciano
Publisher: Alterna

Synopsis: “In 1915, Abigail Moore became one of the first female police officers in Hollywood. But beneath the glamorous surface of Tinseltown beats a rotten heart full of corruption, greed, and lies, and Abigail’s about to dive head-first into all of it.”

PREVIEWSworld

You gotta love it when you have strong female characters take the lead as protagonist of the story.  But to have such a character be at the forefront of First World War era Hollywood?! Color me interested, and how! Abigail Moore certainly seems to have the honor of being Tinsel Town’s first ever female cop but, will that be enough to prepare her for the seedy and seamy underside of the city that permeates its gilded existence?  Who knows but, something tells me this is a challenge that Abigail will not shy away from.  Coming straight to you in a five-issue limited series.

Zero Jumper #1 (of 4)
Writer(s): Patrick Mulholland
Artist(s): Patrick Mulholland
Cover Artist(s): Patrick Mulholland
Publisher: Alterna

Synopsis: “An ancient power source that can manipulate space and time is buried deep on a barren world and Juno, the last human, must embark on a dangerous journey to find it. Her mission is simple: go back in time and save humanity from extinction. The cost? Her life.”

PREVIEWSworld

Space opera mixed with time travel creates one amazing combination, in my humble opinion.  What Juno has on her hands is a mission that could very well change the fate of humanity’s course to extinction, after all.  Just what is this power source though and how does it hold the key to humanity’s future? Furthermore, why must the cost be her life for saving humanity in the first place if all she must do is find this artifact?  Well I can’t exactly just give away the story to you here but can only encourage you to read on my friends and take that giant leap for humanity with Juno!

Females truly are representing the indie comics genre this week, my friends! Juno’s and Abigail’s odysseys speak to the heart of what is truly great storytelling and their comic stories are once again testament to why Alterna continues to be a model for the indie world. And the beauty of these books are that they are yours at the mere click of a button, but you know me enough by now to realize that I’ll encourage you to take that extra step of devotion and show your support for your local comic book shop by getting the actual hardcopies themselves. Read them and share with your friends.  Start up a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two.  But most importantly Gatherers, remember…GGG!
