Autumnal equinox has finally arrived, dear Gatherers and Grand Geeks! And with it, the very real promise of a consistent cool down in the weather. Now it’s time to break out the layers and snuggle up while having your favorite pumpkin spice drink or food at the ready. My Lord, have I really become that basic?! Well, far as I’m concerned that’s just fine, as long as the pumpkin spice beverage or food has a good indie book to go along with it. So sit back, enjoy the slow regeneration of summer green into autumn amber and see what I have to offer you this week!

Satire stories regarding the concept of Heaven are something truly, at least in my humble opinion, unique to the realm of independent comics. Too bad someone like David can’t appreciate the concept though. Truly amazing talent as well!
Writer(s): Eric Esquivel, James A. Fino
Artist(s): Trevor Richardson, Fernando Pinto
Cover Artist(s): Trevor Richardson
Publisher: Starburns Industries Press
Synopsis: “Inspired by anthology series like Creepshow and Tales From The Crypt, Fantasmagoría explores mythology specific to Mexico and the American Southwest in a series creepy-yet-comical horror stories that will straight up scare the salsa out of you! Undead luchadors! Evil piñatas! Hot, hot vato vs. vampire action! Fantasmagoría is what would happen of Telemundo locked down the rights to The Twilight Zone, and then gulped down a healthy dose of Ayahuasca. Created by Eric Esquivel (DC Rebirth Holiday Special, Heavy Metal Magazine, Vertigo Quarterly) and James Fino (Community, King of the Hill)!”
Horror and mythology have always been effective plot elements to a good story. Combine that with Hispanic and Southwestern culture and you get an explosive mix that is bound to entice and spook you to no end! Despite the amazing talent on the book itself, this book is just the thing needed to kick off the frights for the month of October!
And there we have it, Gatherers and Grand Geeks. September is at an end, and fall is in full swing. And while you enjoy your pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin spice donuts, enjoy tales of moronic idiots in Heaven combined with Hispanic mythology and horror. These gems and so many more are what await you at the mere click of a button on your keyboard or a touch of the screen on your phone or tablet. But I trust you’ll take the next step and show your support for your local comic store by heading down their way this Wednesday and purchasing the the hard copy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
