Howdy to all you adoring Grand Geeks and Gatherers out there! Summer is slowly coming to a close but the heat remains. Don’t let the ebb and flow of seasons fool you though, for there is always a good time to find out a new good indie comic! I plan on reading some myself and relaxing by poolside. Until then though, let’s see what looks good this week.
Nobody’s Child #1
Writer(s): Massimo Rosi
Artist(s): Ramiro Borrallo
Cover Artist(s): Ramiro Borrallo
Publisher: Behemoth Comics
Synopsis: “In an unspecified time in the future, it is discovered that within a special breed of albino rhinoceros there is a genetic code that holds the properties to regenerate man, that can cure all diseases, even those very serious. As a result, in a short period of time this albino rhino becomes nearly extinct, leaving just one: Sabium. Enter Bakari, a boy dealing with his own devastation, who now decides to dedicate his life to protecting this rhino.”
How strange it would seem that a rhinoceros would hold the key to mankind’s uncertain destiny in an interminable future. They are hunted nearly to extinction as a result…that is until a young man decides to protect the last living albino.
Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. 1957 #1 (one-shot)
Writer(s): Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson
Artist(s): Laurence Campbell
Cover Artist(s): Laurence Campbell
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Synopsis: “Before they can track down an errant copy of Gustav Strobl’s Witchcraft and Demonology, Hellboy and B.P.R.D. agent Susan Xiang are sidetracked by a beset housewife’s pleas for help. Unraveling the mystery of an unwanted house guest may lead the occult investigators right to where they wanted to be, but also right into demonic danger…”
It seems that irony hits hard in Hellboy’s world with his involvement with the BPRD, and in 1957 especially so when he is on the verge of tracking down an existing copy of a demoncraft tome when a housewife’s plea for help sidetracks his mission. The irony is that the sidetracking brings them closer to their goal!
And there we have it, folks! Intriguing tales of demonology and witchcraft with everyone’s favorite fiendish superhero combined with a bleak future’s reliance on albino rhinoceros DNA and a young man willing to defend one to prevent their complete extinction. These stories and so many others are available at the mere click of a button on your keyboards or at the touch of a screen on your phones and/or tablets. But since many of you willingly support local business, I will encourage you to head down to your comics shop this Wednesday so that you may pick up the hardcopy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
