Howdy to all Gatherers and Grand Geeks out there! I hope everyone’s weekend was wonderful and no doubt some of you must have had the chance to attend New York Comic Con. If you did so I am utterly jealous for I certainly didn’t have the means to come to the Big Apple this year to attend the festivities. But from here on out I do believe one of my last cons of the season will be Los Angeles Comic Con, or LACC, and that is just around the corner people! So in the meantime, sit back, grab that pumpkin spice coffee, and let’s see what’s good out in the indie world this week!
Devil Within #1 (of 4)
Writer(s): Stephanie Phillips
Artist(s): Maan House
Cover Artist(s): Meghan Hetrick, Maan House
Publisher: Black Mask Studios
Synopsis: “Paranormal entities. Demonic possessions. Or is it madness? When newly engaged Michelle and Samantha move into an old house, Michelle starts experiencing disturbing events… rogue reflections in mirrors, strange apparitions, and an eerie voice only she can hear. Samantha doesn’t believe in ghosts, but the alternative might be even more terrifying in this hauntingly paranoid thriller from new writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Mann House (Witchblade).”
Everyone loves a good haunted house theme, right? And there’s plenty to choose from! But what stands out about this particular tale is not only that one is a believer in spooks and one can’t give a flaming hoot about them, but that the strange occurrences going on might be more than just simple haunts and frights going about. Perhaps something is pulling the strings in order to spook out this newly engaged couple?!
Writer(s): Kevin Huizenga
Artist(s): Kevin Huizenga
Cover Artist(s): Kevin Huizenga
Publisher: Drawn & Quarterly
Synopsis: “Fielder is the new series by Kevin Huizenga, author of the classic Ganges series of over-sized comics, featuring four new stories by the multi-Ignatz winning, Eisner, and Harvey nominated cartoonist. Reminiscent of current one-man anthologies like Sammy Markham’s Crickets and Adrian Tomine’s Optic Nerve, this new “comics magazine” will center on Huizenga’s character, Glenn Ganges, in different genre-bending roles…”
Finally we get to see more of Huizenga’s Glen Ganges in midst of other roles! I for one am a happy camper at this and am sure many of you will appreciate these new and odd tales of his in this magazine sized comic extravaganza!
And there we have it for the week, Gatherers and Grand Geeks! New and innovative characters getting thrust into unusual situations coupled with haunted houses that may not be what they seem. These rare gems and more are what await you at the mere click of a button on your keyboard or the touch of a screen on your tablet or phone. But lets be a bit more proactive and head down to our local comic store this week and show our support for their local business by buying the hard copies themselves, shall we? Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
