Happy Thanksgiving’s Eve most exalted Gatherers and Grand Geeks! That time of the year has come in which we show our proper gratitude to the whole of humanity and feast on lobster and pheasant and mutton at our table. Turkey is anachronistically connected to the Thanksgiving feast festival sadly but hey, just because tradition has been twisted does not mean I have to break it this week. I still intend to roll out some interesting selections for you to read before you all gorge yourselves this upcoming Thursday. Huzzah!
Rick and Morty presents Pickle Rick! #1
Writer(s): Delilah Dawson
Artist(s): C. J. Cannon, Nick Filardi
Cover Artist(s): Benjamin Dewey, C .J. Cannon
Publisher: Oni Press
Synopsis: “The biggest pickle-sized character in pop culture comes to comics! In this re-imagined version, written by Delilah S. Dawson (Star Wars) and with art from series artists C. J. Cannon and Brittany Peer, Rick gets out of some much-needed family therapy time by inventing a fruit gun, which he uses on himself, and things go…poorly. Yes, cucumbers are fruits! Plus, Jaguar’s back and he’s on a mission to save his daughter.”
Seriously guys, I could go on forever enumerating all the potentially valid reasons why it’s truly amazing that Pickle Rick finally has his own comic but hey, let the cover art of that Cannon variant cover be reason enough why you should march down to your local comic store and get it this Wednesday. Suffice it to say we get more shenanigans of Rick turning himself into a brine-steeped cucumber, except that now the entire family has been changed as such!
Conspiracy: The Illuminati #1 (of 5)
Writer(s): Hans Rodionoff
Artist(s): J. G. Miranda
Cover Artist(s): Leonardo Colapietro, Marc Rosete
Publisher: Zenescope Entertainment
Synopsis: “Is the government monitoring you? Are there secret organizations controlling society? Do creatures not of this world live among us? All of this and more is explored in this new thrilling series that delves into some of the horrifying truths we believe in the back of our minds. WARNING This series may very well change how you look at life as we know it.”
Conspiracies often unlock wider truths like a proverbial Rosetta stone. And in comics we are offered just that with this five issue miniseries looking into one of history’s greatest wider truths regarding one of its most sinister secret societies: the Illuminati. Alas, as much as this book may broaden your mind, refrain from trying to place that aluminum wrap helmet upon your head. Let this be an educational tool and not one that will arouse utter suspicion.
There we have it for the week, folks! Before you go munching on that magnificent feast, find yourself these wonderful gems from the convenience of your own computer, tablet or phone. But of course I will encourage you to take that extra step and head down to your local store and pick up the hard copy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start up a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
