Hello all you Grand Geeks and Gatherers out there! I hope everything is well with you and that you’re continuing to pursue all of your fandoms. Weather-wise its been dismal as there has been a spike in temperature making it seem like its almost summer in November. Craziness I tell you! Gets me to want to read some good books by poolside again under a warm sun. But before I do that, let’s see what looks good this week!
White Ash: Season Two #1
Writer(s): Charlie Stickney
Artist(s): Conor Hughes
Cover Artist(s): Conor Hughes, Jae Lee
Publisher: Scout Comics
Synopsis: “Welcome back to White Ash, a small smudge of a town in western Pennsylvania, where mining is a generational calling, and the secrets are buried deeper than the coal in the mountain. And the biggest of those secrets is that elves and dwarves live hidden among the town’s population. Two months have passed since the dramatic conclusion of the first season. Alex, fresh off finding out he comes from a family of dwarves, plans a secret romantic rendezvous in the woods with Lillian the elf… or not so secret, as their meeting is witnessed by a young couple with dire results.”
The story picks up two months after the conclusion of the first season, with Alex, knowledgeable of his dwarven roots, seeks out a romantic getaway with Lilian, who is an elf. Problem is, their getaway together won’t be so secret!
Doctor Who: Empire of the Wolf #1
Writer(s): Jody Houser
Artist(s): Roberta Ingranata
Cover Artist(s): David M. Buisan, Abigail Jill Harding, Christopher Jones
Publisher: Titan Comics
Synopsis: “CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EIGHTH DOCTOR’S DEBUT! Trapped in a parallel universe, Rose Tyler believed her adventures with the Doctor were over. Now, pulled by a mysterious energy into this reality, she must work with two Doctors – the eighth Doctor and the eleventh Doctor – to end the tyrannical rule of the warmongering BAD WOLF EMPRESS!”
So it seemed all was at an end regarding Rose Tyler’s adventures with The Doctor prior to his tenth regeneration in “The End of Time”, or so we all thought. In her alternate reality, strange energies pull onto her, compelling her to once again work with The Doctor, but this time with both his Eighth and Eleventh incarnations, to put an end to the autocratic rule of the Bad Wolf Empress. For any and all fans of Rose, like myself, this is a must have!
And there we have it for the week, Gatherers and Grand Geeks! More tales of The Doctor combined with semi-mythical couplings of elves and dwarves in mining towns. These gems and so many more await you at the mere click of a button on your keyboards or at the touch of a screen on your tablets and/or phones. But since I’m certain you all love supporting local businesses, I will encourage you to head down to your comic stores this Wednesday to pick up the hardcopy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
