Howdy folks! To all Grand Geeks and Gatherers out there, I hope your spring is turning out wonderfully thus far. As for me I’m still coming off of the high of an in-person D&D session yesterday (my first since Covid struck) and am enjoying my weekend. It seems it will be a bit balmier today in weather, so I may just chance a nice rest by the pool with an indie book or two. But before I do that, let’s see what looks good this week!
Destiny, NY #1
Writer(s): Pat Shand
Artist(s): Manuel Preitano
Cover Artist(s): Elisa Romboli
Publisher: Black Mask Studios
Synopsis: “Logan grew up in a boarding school for children with magical prophecies, but she fulfilled her destiny so young that she’s now having a midlife crisis despite being in her 20s. When she falls for the estranged daughter of a mystical crime family, Logan’s new love puts the entire school in jeopardy.
A grounded story about the magic of young adulthood…”
I’m getting a real ‘Potterverse’-unplugged vibe from this book, honestly. I mean, a world where magiccally inclined people exist and a protagonist who’s in midst of it. but combine that with the angst of late-adolescence/young adulthood as well as organized crime and it makes for a powerful combination!
Lady Death: Malevolent Decimation #1 (of 2)
Writer(s): Brian Pulido, Mike MacLean
Artist(s): Diego Bernard
Cover Artist(s): Sorah Suhng, Jesse Wichmann, Anthony Spay, Richard Ortiz
Publisher: Coffin Comics
Synopsis: “Lady Death has always been the BAD GIRL. But once upon a time, she was absolutely EVIL. Obsessed with annihilation, the diva of death sought to snuff out the entire human race and turn the earth into an endless graveyard. Thankfully, Lady Death changed her wicked ways…”
Well, well. It seems LD is going back to some evil ways once again. Honestly this makes me happy, for its almost like a character is returning to the roots that made them great in the first place. The fact that she does so to seek a new power makes it all the more interesting, as well as the fact we see the Coffinverse expanding more and more!
And there we have it for the end of March, my dear Grand Geeks and Gatherers! Once again we show what a firm foothold females have in the indie comics realm with a magically inclined savant as well as a minion of Hell’s reckoning. These shining jewels are available at the mere click of a button on your keyboards or at the touch of a screen on your phones and/or tablets. But as usual I will encourage you to show love to your local businesses and head down to your comic shops this Wednesday. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
