Hello out there to all you Gatherers and Grand Geeks taking refuge among the stars! I hope all is well. As for me, last week was more or less an emotional roller coaster the likes of which I am just happy is over with. Now I take the time to relax and reflect and settle down into my usual routine of enjoying my fandoms. But before I do that, let’s see what I can suggest for all your indie comic reading needs!

Archangel 8 #1 (of 5)
Writer(s): Michael Moreci
Artist(s): C. P. Smith, Snakebite Cortez
Cover Artist(s): Jeff Dekal
Publisher: AWA Studios-Upshot

Synopsis: “In a world beyond the sight of mortals, Heaven and Hell wage war for the souls of mankind. Principal among God’s legion are seven archangels written about in religious texts for millennia. But there is an eighth archangel, known only from passing allusions in Apocrypha, who operates under a different code. Fighting without God’s sanction, he faces the enemy on his own terms, and shows just how bad good can be.”

PREVIEWSworld

The endless war between Heaven and Hell is real upon Earth, with angels and demons locked in a struggle that seems never-ending. Officially we know of seven archangels named by sacred texts as being God’s great commanders in this eternal conflict. A supposed eighth becomes the focus of this five issue miniseries, and unlike his peers, he doesn’t take his orders directly from his Commander. A truly fearsome adversary that Hell may have no choice but to fear.

Hotell #1 (of 4)
Writer(s): John Lees
Artist(s): Dalibor Talajic
Cover Artist(s): Karen Andrews
Publisher: AWA Studios-Upshot

Synopsis: “You won’t find it on any map, but if you happen to be driving down Route 66 late at night and you’re truly desperate for shelter, sanctuary or secrecy, you might see a battered sign on the side of the road: The Pierrot Courts Hotel. – where many check in but few check out.”

PREVIEWSworld

The Pierrot Courts Hotel. Somehow it just seems creepy even to utter its very name. Alas, for the weary traveler in need of relaxation while on Route 66 it might just be a necessity to check into to recover from the rigors of the road.  Off the bat though it should be noted that you won’t find this place in any roadmap or itinerary, and to even know of its existence while traveling is if you happen to find a weather beaten sign by the roadside indicating that it is there. In all likelihood this place should receive a negative four star review, for while many check in to Pierrot Courts, almost none check out.

Red Border #1 (of 4)
Writer(s): Jason Starr
Artist(s): Will Conrad, Ivan Nunes
Cover Artist(s): Tim Bradstreet
Publisher: AWA Studios-Upshot

Synopsis: “A young Mexican couple narrowly escapes the Juarez Cartel by fleeing across the border into Texas, only to be run down in the desert by the Cartel’s most brutal thugs. Rescued by a mysterious local who takes them to the safety of his family’s ranch, the couple soon realize their hosts have more than just skeletons in their closet. Trapped in a house of horrors beyond their wildest imagination, the army of assassins on their trail might be the least of their problems.”

PREVIEWSworld

This story seems to put into perspective the very philosophy of what must be considered between the lesser of two evils. When a Mexican couple escapes the powerful Juarez Cartel based in Chihuahua only to be rescued by mysterious hosts that quite literally have skeletons in more places than just their closet, one cannot help but wonder which is worse!

The Resistance #1 (of 6)
Writer(s): J. Michael Straczynski
Artist(s): Mike Deodato
Cover Artist(s): Rahzzah, Mike Deodato
Publisher: AWA Studios-Upshot

Synopsis: “J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5 and writer of beloved runs on The Amazing Spider-Man, Thor, and Superman: Earth One, returns to comics teaming with Mike Deodato Jr., the blockbuster artist of The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Infinity Wars. Together they plant the flag for a new universe of heroes and villains. A global disaster leaves hundreds of millions dead in its wake. Shortly after, a few thousand suddenly manifest superhuman powers. Are they harbingers of more perils to come…or Earth’s last hope?

PREVIEWSworld

A world of superheroes suddenly risen. A classic tale seen numerous times in comics and science fiction. But in a newly original approach, as precursor to this new “super” awakening there was a global apocalypse that paved the way for many in humanity to attain these newfound powers. The real question is whether this change is for better or worse.
