Hello to all you wonderful Grand Geeks that have gathered! I hope everyone’s weekend was as great as mine. Yesterday comprised a meeting of the Grand Geek Gathering Network to discuss current trends and future goals for us all. It was also a relaxing time for me to get caught up on some other books I’ve been behind in reading but also to see what summer picks are just over the horizon for you to enjoy. This week it seems Titan Comics really has outdone itself with some amazing titles. Let’s see what the publisher presents to you, hmm?!
Brother Nash #1
Writer(s): Bridgit Connell
Artist(s): Bridgit Connell
Cover Artist(s): Bridgit Connell, Sanford Greene
Synopsis: “American Gods meets Preacher and Hellboy on the midnight road to Sacramento! Nash is a trucker, he also sees ghosts, and when the moon is on the rise and violence threatens his friends…He roams as a wolf…As the Highway Beast! When Nash takes on a mysterious hitchhiker heading for Tucson, he and his friends are dragged headfirst into his biggest and most dangerous adventure yet!”
Never will I turn away a good book dealing with horror or occult or supernatural themes, and Brother Nash seems to combine all of these and more. Nash’s day job apparently is just one of America’s big ole’ truckers but by night his lycan self comes out, especially when his friends are threatened. All well and fine until that mysterious traveler comes about and takes Nash and his buddies for the ride of a lifetime from which they might never recover.
Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor #1 (of 4)
Writer(s): Andrew Cartmel
Artist(s): Christopher Jones
Cover Artist(s): Alice X. Zhang, Will Brooks, Christopher Jones, Simon Myers
Synopsis: “From the writers of the fan favourite episode Remembrance of the Daleks, Andrew Cartmel and Ben Aaronovitch (Rivers of London) which celebrates it’s 30th anniversary in 2018! Brand new comic adventure featuring the Seventh Doctor as played by Sylvester McCoy and Ace as played by Sophie Aldred! Includes short back-up strip, written by Richard Dinnick (Twelfth Doctor) with art by Jessica Martin (Doctor Who Actress).”
All fans of Doctor Who will be sure to tell you which incarnation was ‘their Doctor.’ By definition the very term means which incarnation they were first introduced to when they became immersed in the Doctor’s legend and which forms the basis for their love of his epic tales. For me, the Seventh Doctor will always be my Doctor, and it’s with great pride that he is reintroduced to current readers in celebrating his 30th anniversary this year!
June kicks off to an amazing start, Grand Geeks! With both lycan truckers and Time Lords in the mix of stories this week, Titan has gone up and beyond the call to provide all you adoring Gatherers the best indie books. And what’s amazing about these books is that they are a mere click of a button away, either on your keyboard or on the screens of your phones and tablets. But of course you will do the right thing and show your support for local comic stores by going down to them this Wednesday and getting the actual hard copies. Read them and share with your friends. Start up a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, my dear indie readers, remember…GGG!
