Howdy, Gatherers and Grand Geeks! I hope everyone is well as we are practically coming to the first half of the year! Spring is feeling balmier by the day, and summer is just around the corner! For my part, its going to be a fun-filled tabletop roleplaying game extravaganza. Perhaps there will also be some time to enjoy a good book or two under the shade of a tree with a cold beverage by my side. But before I do so, let’s see what looks good this week in the indie comics world!
Newthink #1 (of 5)
Writer(s): Gregg Hurwitz
Artist(s): Mike Deodato
Cover Artist(s): Rahzzah, Mike Deodato
Publisher: AWA-Upshot Studios
Synopsis: “This Black Mirror-style anthology examines the rapid proliferation of technology, the cultural and political polarization of the country, and the technocrats that have driven us to such extremes of thought that we need to present the present as something…futuristic. Each of the five issues is a stand-alone tale with its own art team.”
Every so often there is a comic that challenges us to truly think outside the box. And it seems that this “Black Mirror” ode is a perfect example of such a popular work. Newthink is a miniseries anthology that overlooks mankind’s procession from origins to the technology age. In fact, the road to it is so quick that it seems almost to have outrun mankind in such a way that those whom control it have to show the present day as something that is out of some futuristic science fiction novel. It seems to be a wild ride over five issues. The question is, are we ready for such a story as this?!

And there we have it for the week, folks! Vengeful antics to educate the importance of fall holidays combined with a strange “black mirror” ode to mankind’s progress in a five-issue anthology. These tales and so many more await you at the mere click of a button on your keyboards or at the touch of a screen on your phones and/or tablets. But since many of you support local businesses I will encourage you to head to your comic shops this Wednesday and pick up the hard copy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
