Howdy Grand Geeks and Gatherers! I hope everyone is trying to keep cool as temperatures rise and summer continues to beat down hard upon us all. I myself will enjoy a cold drink in hand by poolside while I catch up on all my favorite selections to read. But before I do so, let’s see what looks good in the indie comics world this week!
Trailer Park Boys Get a F#ing Comic Book #1
Writer(s): Josh Blaylock, Travis Hymel, Shawn DePasquale, Various
Cover Artist(s): Joel H. Herrera, Josh Blaylock, Jose Garibaldi
Publisher: Devil’s Due Comics
Synopsis: “Devil’s Due Comics and Trailer Park Boys have inked a big fancy partnership to debut the Canadian trio from Sunnyvale Trailer Park in their debut comic book series! Featuring a sh** ton of creators and short stories personally approved by “the boys.” This wicked anthology series stars Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles in a mix of original shorts that feel plucked right from the TV show, as well as some fantastical tales that can’t be done on TV. It’s gonna be dee-cent!”
If you would’ve told me twenty years ago that this seemingly obscure Canadian mockumentary would garner its own comic some day, I’d have laughed in your face. Well now the joke’s on me as new and original tales of the crew are emblazoned across the indie comics page. What’s not to enjoy?!
Rick and Morty Presents The Hotel Immortal #1
Writer(s): Alejandro Arbona
Artist(s): Marc Ellerby
Cover Artist(s): Marc Ellerby
Publisher: Oni Press
Synopsis: “Murder at the Hotel Immortal?! Impossible, you say? Not so! Find out who done stabbed whom in this whodunnit issue of Rick and Morty Presents. When Cornvelious Daniels checks in for some R&R at the Hotel Immortal, bodies start dropping–and accusations start flying!”
Wubba lubba dub dub! Another schwifty adventure of everyone’s idiotic duo, now trying to solve a murder in a place that apparently is a residence to immortals. The fact that Cornvelious Daniel is checking into the establishment though is a very telling detail! Who knows if Cornvelious done it or not really?! Regardless, this story seems to offer everything that we come to expect from Rick and Morty.
And there we have it for the week, folks! More schwifty tales of everyone’s favorite zany duo combined with a cult classic from the late-90s come to light! These gems and so many more await you at the mere click of a button on your keyboards or at the touch of a screen on your phones and/or tablets. But since you all love supporting local businesses I will encourage you to head down to your comic shops this Wednesday to pick up the hardcopy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
