Hello to all you happy Gatherers and Grand Geeks in the indie reading world this week! I have survived that great deluge from last week and have come out dry on the other end. But seriously all is wonderfully clear and dry here once again while the cold month of January continues to trudge on. The perfect weather to bundle up by a crackling fireplace or heater and enjoy a good book or two. Honestly though if this week’s Picks do not heat you up already then I do not know what will!
Lady Death: Hellraiders #1
Writer(s): Brian Pulido, Mike MacLean
Artist(s): Dheeraj Verma
Cover Artist(s): David Harrigan, Diego Bernard
Publisher: Coffin Comics
Synopsis: “The Trinity triggers an extinction level supernatural event that threatens the earth. Rada, a technology manipulating voodoo priestess, is leader of a clandestine group of “unnaturals” who safeguard humanity. She has a vision that Lady Death is the key to defeating the menace. Rada must assemble a team with specific powers and abilities to raid hell and convince Lady Death to save the planet she detests. Is this even possible? The answer may surprise you. Featuring Coffin characters War Angel, Caprice, Wargoth, Hellslinger, Brock, Atticus Marrow, Chaotica and Thanatos. Limited to copies ordered. Come bagged for protection.”
Any time a story involves trying to persuade Lady Death to save the very world she loathes, you come to realize you have a tale worthy of being a true epic on your hands. Problem is, will she even be swayed to do the right thing?
Grimm Fairy Tales 2019 Annual #1
Writer(s): Joe Brusha
Artist(s): Eman Casallos, Jorge Cortes
Cover Artist(s): Netho Diaz, Ediano Silva, Michael Dooney, Ian Richardson
Publisher: Zenescope Entertainment
Synopsis: “With the Grail restored, Merlin has become the most powerful being in the entire Grimm Universe. Camelot has been restored with him as its ruler. Now he and his knights have their sights set on conquering the earth and only Skye and a handful of heroes can stop him.”
Whoever heard of a story in which the grand wizard Merlin would become in essence a conquering villain? Well in the midst of this story courtesy of Joe Brusha (Grimm Fairy Tales, Different Seasons), it seems that he is ready and willing to do just that. He’s now the most powerful being in the known universe and rules Camelot and the Round Table. Now his sight is set upon conquering Earth, and all that stands in his way are Skye and what heroes are left to oppose him. Something tells me that this is a tale that will not go over too well, and that it will not be all’s well that ends well.
And there we have it for the penultimate week of January, folks! Strong female characters and plenty of choice cheesecake artwork to entice your visual senses. These gems and more are what await you at the mere click of a button on your devices, but being the supporters of local businesses that I trust you already are, you will instead head down to your local stores today and pick up the hard copy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
