Howdy to all you adoring Gatherers and Grand Geeks out there!  January is already half way through and it’s freezing cold out here in the south land of California.  Why as I write this I am shivering down to the bone while a cold rain pelts just outside my window.  All is not lost though, for my heater is on and a fine cup of coffee is in my hand.  And comics…comics everywhere that beg to be read.  But before I get on to my personal selections, let’s just see what I would recommend to you this week!

PREVIEWSworld

You all have heard of the phrase “the South shall rise again!” Well, you quite literally get a dosage of such a foretelling in this tale penned and penciled by the dynamic duo of Billy Tucci (Shi), and Ethan Nicolle (Axe Cop).  It seems that an ancient plaything of Lilith, Adam’s first wife, has the power of necromancy at its disposal and that it has targeted of all places Appalachia, U.S.A.!  Now honestly, in a day and age in which we have been weaned on the exploits of Daryl Dixon and the Walking Dead, one must scratch their heads in wonder at how successful a zombie apocalypse will be in such a very special region of the United States.  But still, allow the good ole country boy and estranged wife to fight it!

White Widow #1
Writer(s): Benny Powell
Artist(s): Jamie Tyndall
Cover Artist(s): Jamie Tyndall
Publisher: Red Giant Entertainment

Synopsis: “Gabrielle Garcia was a typical American girl going to college to follow in her father’s footsteps – or so she thought. One night, her father barged into her dorm room, suffering from a fatal gunshot, and injected her with… something.  That was the moment she became the White Widow.”

PREVIEWSworld

I think it’s safe to say that there is a general feeling of arachnophilia among comics geeks today.  And no, not just of the kind that enjoy Peter Parker or Richard Wentworth.  So many fans have love for the creature and those that get influenced by them.  And in this tale we have another such person who gets their lives turned around due to a spider.  Except in this case the spider is not directly responsible for the changes that come to our heroine.  The circumstances make the creature a minor player at best.  But what Gabrielle Garcia becomes is one major hero as a result!
