Howdy Gatherers and Grand Geeks! It seems even as we are at the end of February, we just can’t get out of the cold snaps here in the good ole Southern California region. Some warmth here but then next moment it comes back to haunt us with small bouts of rain. Oh well, perfect cuddle weather if you ask me! Especially with a good indie book or two under a nice comforter! So let’s see what I can suggest for that warming activity!
Lady Death: Scorched Earth #1 (of 2)
Writer(s): Brian Pulido, Mike MacLean
Artist(s): Diego Bernard
Cover Artist(s): Jenevieve Broomall, Anthony Spay, Ale Garza, Richard Ortiz
Publisher: Coffin Comics
Synopsis: “Twenty years ago, the Earth as we know it was irrevocably changed in the aftermath of Lady Death’s epic battle with Atrocity, the Mother of Abominations. A major city was laid to waste, and though she saved the day, Lady Death was labeled a global threat. And then… Lady Death disappeared. Set against this backdrop, and with the extinction level villainy of The Trinity threatening humanity, Lady Death returns to present day Earth. Will she be seen as friend or foe? Is she humanity’s salvation or destruction?”
Apparently Hope is the victim of the one-sided philosophy of ‘destroying the city in order to save it’ regarding her battle with Atrocity and its destructive aftermath. Now the Trinity threatens humanity and she returns to save the day…but is humanity ready and willing for her return? Or do they remember all too easily what destruction lay in her reach?!
Finger Guns #1
Writer(s): Justin Richards
Artist(s): Val Halvorson
Cover Artist(s): Arjuna Susini, Tim Daniel, Jen Hickman
Publisher: Vault Comics
Synopsis: “Two troubled teenagers discover they can manipulate emotions by firing finger guns. There will be laughs. There will be tears. There will be uncomfortable teen feelings and angst. Oh yeah… and chaos. So much chaos.”
Ah the game of finger guns! A timeless classic that knows no age boundaries. But in the hands of two angst-ridden adolescents, the game turns into quite an overpowered thrill-fest! It seems these two have attained some special power when they play the game, for when they assume their fingers in this position, they find they can manipulate emotions in themselves and others. This seems like it can either be an interesting tidbit that will either be handled responsibly…nah, they’re teenagers. The power will no doubt be handled so very irresponsibly and the emotional fallout no doubt will be epic. And just like the description indicates, one can only wonder how very chaotic this game is going to be. Fire away!
