It has been quite the year and the wheels of indie selections continue to turn on into the new year. But while you are enjoying that festive meal today, here are some more indie picks I hereby recommend for all your reading needs.
Die Die Die! #6
Writer(s): Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple
Artist(s): Chris Burnham
Cover Artist(s): Chris Burnham
Publisher: Image Comics
Synopsis: “Wow! I can’t believe that happens in this issue! Or that! Or that, that and that!!!”
It’s not everyday we come across covers that have to be redacted prior to official releases when it comes to the indie comics realm. But in the case of this particular series from Walking Dead comic writer Robert Kirkman and AMC’s The Walking Dead writer/producer Scott Gimple, it’s almost anticipated if not entirely expected. The entire series has revolved around a terribly secret cabal within the United States government devoted to trying to even the odds through calculated assassination. It’s almost as if the concept of the mob hit has come home to America’s governmental structure and now it’s gotten so bloody that the cover is redacted and details regarding what happens become vague or non-descriptive. It’s definitely not too late to play catch-up in this series and get to the sixth issue in time for tomorrow!
Writer(s): Chelsea Cain
Artist(s): Kate Niemczyk
Cover Artist(s): Lia Miternique
Publisher: Image Comics
Synopsis: “ ‘CAT FIGHT!’ This exclusive special report will be a must-buy for MAN-EATERS fans and collectors, while also acting as a stand-alone entry point for those who are new to the series. ‘CAT FIGHT’ is the illustrated cat defense manual you, and your customers, have been waiting for.”
Already in its fourth issue, Man-Eaters is showing up to be one of Image’s successful up and coming series. But what’s more amazing about this installment of the ongoing is that whether you have been on board with the story from the beginning or are just jumping into it now, it is the perfect jumping on point to get you enmeshed in the narrative. And let’s be honest here, that cover and its feline guide subtitle are all that is necessary to clinch those that make cats their pets. So naturally I am going to be raiding the local store tomorrow to get it. The more important question to ask is…are you?!
And with that, 2018 is a wrap, folks! Next episode will be in 2019 and with it the promise of a new year of indie picks provided by yours truly. So sit back and enjoy the holidays and let the year come to its merry conclusion. Enjoy these stories along the way of man-eating schemes and shadow governments. They are but some of the shining gems you will find at the click of a button on your mouse, keyboard, tablet or phone. But being the good supporters of local business that I trust you are, I know you will head down to your local stores tomorrow and find the hard copy issues themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG…and Happy Holidays!
