Happy August blaze to all you Gatherers and Grand Geeks out there! As I write this I am doing my best not to melt away entirely from this insane heatwave that we have been experiencing as of late. Basking in the air conditioner or dips in the pool only go so far toward being remedies for this misfortune. Reading some good ole indie books helps go a long way to distract you from the sensations. Now while I wouldn’t say indie comics are the best remedy for the heat, let’s just see what might help satiate your reading needs while the heat continues to blast on, shall we?!

Synopsis: “New Zealand’s #1 selling comic of all time is being relaunched as a brand new series in the US! Blastosaurus, a 6-foot-tall, mutant triceratops, aided by Tabitha Jones and Richard Green (the twelve-year-old sidekicks he never asked for) battles monsters, robots, sentient meatballs and whatever other weirdness Freak Out City can throw at him. This action/fantasy all-ages book is big, stupid fun, grounded by a real emotional core and the most human dinosaur you’ll ever meet! Perfect all-ages comic for fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Gravity Falls and Will Eisner’s The Spirit.”
In a world where so many anthropomorphic superheroes steal the show, a crime and monster fighting dinosaur is what will put us over the edge, people! Bask in the greatness that is New Zealand’s most popular comic book hero!

Synopsis: “Reptilon has just found its sister planet-Earth-complete with water, fauna, and a billion pieces of MEAT.
The Voyager has been peacefully traveling through space for years when, unexpectedly, it’s attacked by an alien, laser-shooting space shuttle. The attackers? Fully evolved, advanced humanoid dinosaurs who’ve destroyed their home planet and are now on the hunt to commandeer a new one to expand their empire.”
So now we are looking at dinosaurs from the other side! No longer the crimefighting superheroes like in our last selection but instead as the carnivorous imperialist space conquerors set on making Earth their new hunting grounds! And all to think that merely the Voyager satellite was just going about its business exiting our Solar System only to alert this dinosaur mother ship to the location of a new place they could call home. Can peaceful coexistence be an option?!
And there we have it for the week, my dear Grand Geeks and Gatherers. It seems dinosaurs have become an important part of the indie scene this week, portraying both superhero adventurers as well as interstellar conquerors. These great books and more are what await you at the mere click of a button on your monitor screens or keyboards. But being the devoted supporters of local businesses you are, you will go down to your local comic store this Wednesday and purchase the hard copies themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly, remember…GGG!
