Hello Gatherers and Grand Geeks! I hope your January is going well thus far as is the whole of 2022 for you! Me myself I am feeling quite better and am ready to get back into the swing of things. Today I plan to catch up on some quality reading as well as to prepare for my tabletop gaming marathon that will commence next weekend. But before I do so, let’s see what looks good this week in the indie comics world!

Distorted #1
Writer(s): Salvatore Vivenzio
Artist(s): Gabriele Falzone
Cover Artist(s): Gabriele Falzone
Publisher: Scout Comics

Synopsis: “Somewhere in the world, there is someone who feels different/special/cursed, who is losing their mind right now. You’re not alone. Take James for example. He would like to run away from his parents and from a life that doesn’t belong to him. On the other hand, Tom is forced to face his past and hunt down his own kind, like a hound on the leash of an unknown master. Brennar is on the hunt for money and a peace he can’t find anywhere…”

PREVIEWSworld

In a world where superpowers seemed to be a curse rather than a blessing, three youths have issues coming to terms with their supposed gifts. Sad but relatable.

Kingjira: Hungry Like a Monster #1 (one-shot)
Writer(s): Marco Fontanili
Artist(s) Marco Fontanili
Cover Artist(s): Marco Fontanili
Publisher: Scout Comics

Synopsis: “Kingjira, the king of monsters, has escaped from his prison and he is causing panic in the city. The reason for his fury is simple: the King is hungry. And we all know what kings’ food is, don’t we? Simple: the pizza! Kingjira: Hungry like a Monster is a funny tribute to the kaiju genre!”

PREVIEWSworld

It doesn’t take too great a stretch of the imagination to see what genre this particular one-shot is parodying. Apparently a kaiju is on the loose and is entirely hungry for pizza and will stop at nothing to get some. Of course, if he is king of monsters, isn’t it conceivable that other kaiju may come to take away his pizza?!
