Halloween is nearly upon us, Gatherers. And if you are from the Southern California area, you would also be in the unfortunate position to know that Mordor is upon us also. By that I mean we have excessively hot temperatures already ranging into the nineties on the Fahrenheit scale with winds kicking it up. On top of that, it is entirely dry, almost ludicrously so. But hey, that’s no excuse and I realize that, so, how about some nice Picks to entice all your reading needs this week, hmm?!

No Room for Magic #1
Writer(s): Adrian Ramos
Artist(s): Adrian Ramos
Cover Artist(s): Adrian Ramos
Synopsis: “From internationally-acclaimed cartoonist Adrian Ramos comes this all-new, all-ages fantasy series that’ll make you believe in Magic! 15-year old Magic McAllistair lives in a world full of fantastic beasts, powerful wizards, and dangerous adventures, yet all she wants to do is stay in her bedroom and listen to punk rock music. But when teenagers begin to get trapped inside their sorcery social media accounts, who better to solve “The Curse of the Hashtag Medusa” than Magic, the only girl in the entire world who has never smiled in a selfie?”
This story is something that results when you combine the likes of Harry Potter with punk rock music and emo-tastes. It’s one thing to be an adolescent female in a world where magic is the norm but, what if your norm is just to listen to music all day? And on top of that, what if well known mages and friends of yours start to become victimized by some strange social media curse? Well, I sure can’t answer that question for you, but Magic McAllistair can so, read on and see what strange shenanigans await her. And as a parting shot to all of this, whom among you has never smiled in a selfie?! Seriously though, it boggles the mind!
If you’re as smart as I am, you will be closing yourself up in your established residence with the AC on at full blast people, and regale yourselves with tales of comic parodies and emo-mages. These stories, and others, are what await you in the indie comic world and are available at the mere push of a button or screen. I’ll of course challenge you to go the next step and visit your local comic shop itself and get these hardcopies themselves. Read them and share with your friends. Start up a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly Gatherers, remember…GGG!
