Here we are, as in olden days, Gatherers. And by olden days I mean as early as last week where once again I bring to you some great suggestions of what to read in the realm of independent label comics. So pull up some scrumptious peppermint bark and your favorite cup of cocoa or apple cider and let’s see what there is to read!
How the Trump Stole Christmas #1 (one-shot)
Writer(s): Brian Denham
Artist(s): Brian Denham
Cover Artist(s): Brian Denham
Synopsis: “It might be an orange Christmas this y-WRONG! We’re going to have a gold Christmas! We have a new cover, the best cover, a cover that is…is just incredible, it’s incredibly gold. The fake news media probably won’t even report this cover, or they’ll tell you it’s orange, but you know the truth. We are going to have gold foil editions available, and it’ll be so easy to get one, believe us.”
Rarely do I ever have the urge to make myself a three-decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich…with arsenic sauce I might add! That’s what you will get and more with this amazing parody in the realm of holiday indie comics. Honestly though I just have to wonder: should my review of this be simply just three words…as in STINK…STANK…STUNK?!
Jim Henson’s The Storyteller Fairies #1 (of 4)
Writer(s): Matt Smith
Artist(s): Matt Smith
Cover Artist(s): Matt Smith
Synopsis: “The critically acclaimed Jim Henson’s The Storyteller celebrates four mythic tales of fairies inspired by folklore from around the world and told in the spirit of Jim Henson’s beloved television series. In this first issue, rising newcomer Matt Smith (Lake of Fire, Barbarian Lord) reimagines the “The Elf Queen and the Shepherd,” a tale of elven fairies in Iceland…”
The timeless love and obsession with Jim Henson’s creations has always intrigued me and continues to do so even now. With this story, a blend of his wonderful series combined with classic faerie myths and legends, a powerful fantasy combination is what awaits you with this masterful miniseries by one talented newcomer to the industry.
One week out from Christmas, Gatherers and already I bring you season’s greetings with great tales of political goblins and re-imagined faerie tales with twists a la Jim Henson. These are the true gems that await you at the mere click of a button on your keyboard or tablet. But I’ll challenge you to brave that winter weather and show your support for your local comic book shop by buying the hardcopies. Read them and share with your friends. Spark up a conversation and be sure to leave a comment or two. But most importantly Gatherers, remember…GGG!
